10 Million Cycles in Three Years: Robust Boom Fillers Improve Production for Evans Vanodine.

MFIL Evans Vanodine 1

Evans Vanodine is an internationally leading manufacturer of janitorial and livestock protection chemicals and disinfectants. At their expansive Lancashire production facility, they blend and fill over 100 different products.

Maintenance Manager Derek Wilson, who has been with Evans Vanodine since 1993, was pleased to discuss the nearly 20 Adelphi Masterfil machines the company has invested in over the years.

A Long-Standing Partnership with Adelphi Masterfil

The relationship between Evans Vanodine and Masterfil dates back to 1985, when the company purchased its first Masterfil machine - an S5000-S semi-automatic filler. Since then, Evans Vanodine has continued to invest in these versatile machines, alongside a fully automatic six-head filling and capping line, originally purchased in 2000 and later upgraded to an eight-head filler.

In 2007, the Adelphi Group of Companies acquired Masterfil, re-incorporating the brand as Adelphi Masterfil. Since the acquisition, Evans Vanodine has invested in two Boom Arm Fillers - one flowmeter version and one connected to a double-acting volumetric semi-automatic filler - both installed in 2013.

Derek describes Adelphi as “helpful and informative” and notes that “they always respond quickly”.

Filling Versatility from 5L to 1000L

The volumetric Boom Arm filler supplied by Adelphi Masterfil includes a custom bench-height platform at the rear. This allows a single machine to fill containers ranging from 5 litres to 1000 litres, dramatically reducing cleaning downtime when switching between container sizes.

This flexibility plays a vital role in maintaining production efficiency across Evans Vanodine’s wide product range.

30 Years of Filling Excellence

When asked why Evans Vanodine continues to invest in newer Adelphi Masterfil equipment, Derek simply points to the older Masterfil machines that are still operating more than three decades later, laughing:

“That says it all!”

He goes on to describe his confidence in the equipment, referring to Masterfil machines as “well-built and robust bits of kit”.

That robustness is essential. Demand for Evans Vanodine’s products - particularly iodine-based disinfectants - has reached record levels due to the avian flu outbreak in China. Production runs from 7:30am to 5:30pm, five days a week, and one Evans Vanodine machine has completed an astonishing 10 million cycles in just three years.

Uncompromising Quality and Reliability

Derek stresses that “Adelphi have kept the integrity of the Masterfil kit and spares the same”, which is critical to maintaining uninterrupted production.

Evans Vanodine’s on-site engineering team of five is responsible for keeping operations running smoothly. With such a large and long-established fleet of Masterfil machines, Derek explains:

“Our team know Masterfil machinery inside out.”

He also highlights the benefit of interchangeable Masterfil parts across machines, making maintenance faster and more efficient.

Both Evans Vanodine and Adelphi Masterfil share a strong commitment to quality and operational excellence. This is evident throughout the Evans Vanodine site, with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) reminders prominently displayed, while Adelphi Masterfil has been shortlisted for the TMMX Operational Excellence Award and holds ISO 9001:2015 accreditation.

A Shared Commitment to Sustainable Manufacturing

Sustainability is another shared value between the two companies. Evans Vanodine operates under an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, accredited by the British Standards Institution, ensuring full compliance with environmental legislation and a commitment to environmental protection.

The company has also joined a local chambers of commerce scheme focused on improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon footprint, and introducing on-site renewable energy generation.

Adelphi Masterfil shares this environmental focus, having received two awards in 2018:

Environmental Initiative of the Year (PPMA)

Sustainable Manufacturer of the Year (Made in the South East)

A Family Business Partnership Built on Trust

Both Evans Vanodine and Adelphi Masterfil are family-run businesses, something Derek greatly values:

“It’s a different feeling with a family company - they really care.”

As Evans Vanodine celebrates its centenary year, Adelphi Masterfil wishes them continued success, as this long-standing partnership continues into the future.
